At Steak 954 on the beach in Fort Lauderdale, in the W Hotel, you can have the pleasure of feeling financially raped (at least in my opinion) by ordering french fries and a soda.  $16.26 to be exact, after tax and tip.  You can see the photo to prove I am not exaggerating. When I got the bill, it reminded me of the prices in Iceland for similar items, except that even Iceland charged me like 20% less then this, and had to ship it across the treacherous frozen waters to serve it to me. I guess getting your food supplier to drop it off at your store adds on some extra money then shipping it across the world does.

I am gonna go out on a limb here and say this place doesn’t last very long.  You cannot rip people off for food items like this and get away with it for long, even if many of them are unsuspecting tourists. Plus the live jellyfish behind me while I was eating was not fancy, or exotic, it was just completely creepy and disgusting.

So I am sure if we were to dissect their actual costs for the french fries and the $0.35 soda, we would all agree, or at least in my personal opinion, I do, that Steak 954 in the W Hotel is a place to avoid based upon price. Lower your prices guys and maybe us regular Joe’s can try to enjoy some bar food.

As you can see from this photo, I am not lying! The Bagel & Cream Cheese here is actually $7.00.  Yup! $7.00 for a bagel and a small side of cream cheese.  How in the world could they possibly think this is even remotely fair.  Even Disney would charge less then this in their parks.

Word to the wise….if you are staying at the Fontainebleau Resort, in my opinion you should avoid Vida restaurant…..unless you are Bill Gates.  Even he might have a problem with a $7 bagel though!

Shame on you guys for doing this to your guests.

We ordered our food (which in both of our opinions sucked) and proceeded to get the check when done.  When I saw the $7.90 for two sodas I almost passed out.  Just like Sosta Pizzeria in South Beach, Olio takes full advantage of their customers and charges them almost $4.00 for a tiny glass of soda. When I finished my first drink, the waiter just took the glass and refilled it.  That usually implies that there are free refills, LIKE ALMOST EVERYWHERE ELSE around town.

Just take a look at the glass to see how small it was.  It is obviously bigger then Sosta (which was 8.5oz) but not by much.  This is a can of soda at its best, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they actually did pour a can into this glass.  So bravo, Olio!  You might have got me twice on this journey and made me pay $7.90 for two drinks, but I will never come back, and I would never recommend anyone else to go there now.  Do you think charging this exorbitant price was worth it?  That is your call.

In My opinion there are way better places to go in Downtown Delray Beach that do not try to rip you off for your drinks!

Where can you go to find a $9.50 grilled cheese sandwich?  Jerry’s Famous Deli in Miami Beach – South Beach. I was pretty shocked to see that a Pizza Bagel only costs $5.50, which has a bagel (usually more expensive then 2 pieces of white bread), sauce, and cheese.  Yet the grilled cheese with 2 pieces of white bread and probably 2 slices of American Cheese should somehow deserve an enormous price tag of $9.50.

Let’t think for a second how much two slices of white bread cost.  Probably less then $0.20 and the cheese is bought wholesale obviously which would also make it around $0.20.  The fries that come with it cost approximately $0.59 based on the amount that came with it. So they are charging almost a 900% mark up on this item.  This is unfair and we suggest in our opinions that you avoid ordering the grilled cheese at Jerry’s Famous Deli unless you feel like getting your wallet raped!

You cannot make this stuff up.  While dining on Lincoln Road in South Beach the other day at Sosta Pizzeria & Enoteca, I realized they charged me $4.00 for a 8.5oz soda.  To give you a comparison you can see my straw is bigger then the bottle.

I actually thought that someone had tampered with the bottle and opened it before I did, since there was so little soda in this tiny little bottle.  There is no way on earth they should get away with charging $4.00 for two sips of a soda.  Think I am exaggerating, as I know this seems to unreal to be true, just look at the photo of the menu above.  I am no mathematician, but at $4.00 for 8.5oz, that means it should be somewhere around $64.00 a gallon.  That makes the Coca-Cola at Sosta 15 times more expensive then Gasoline.

Avoid buying a drink at Sosta….In my opinion it is DEFINITELY a rip off.
